Softball Closes Out Homestand With Two Mid-Week Double-Headers

March 12, 2018

Game Notes

DENTON - The North Texas softball team wraps up a 16-game homestand with a pair of mid-week double-headers. On Tuesday, the Mean Green will face Pacific and UConn at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively, followed by a two-game tilt with Iowa State at noon and 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Pacific defeated North Texas, 10-2, in the schools’ only meeting on March 6, 2004. The Mean Green are 2-1 all-time against Iowa State and won the last showdown 7-4 in Denton. UNT has never faced UConn in their 15-year history.

North Texas is 6-6 in the homestand after losing last weekend’s series to Charlotte, 2-1. Freshman pitcher Hope Trautwein’s first career shutout led the Mean Green to a 1-0 victory in game one but, after scoring four runs in the first inning of game two, the offense failed to score for the next 13 innings over the next two losses.

One area of focus for North Texas to get the offense back on track will be to get leadoff hitters on base. Entering their Conference USA opening series, the Mean Green got their leadoff batter on base at a .462 clip. Against the 49ers, UNT got the leadoff hitter on just four times in 20 opportunities.
