Cox, Lee Named WGCA All-American Scholars

July 5, 2017

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida – A pair of North Texas golfers were named All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), the organization announced Wednesday. Sophomore Sol Lee and freshman Lauren Cox earned All-American distinction to represent the Mean Green.

"We are very proud of Sol and Lauren's recognition today by the WGCA,” head coach Michael Akers said. “Sol and Lauren are committed to their academics and each work very hard in all aspects of life as a student/athlete. I place an emphasis on academics and expect the members of our team to do the same. We are recruiting prospects that have the goal to play golf at the professional level, but also understand they need to get an education. A golf career can end in an instant, but an education will last a lifetime."

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade-point average is 3.50.

Lee, who was also named Third Team All-Conference USA, ended the academic year with a 3.535 GPA, while Cox, who had a very strong freshman season, led the team with a 3.6.
