Mean Green Tied For Second After Tough First Day At TPC
Rosenmueller Leads Way For UNT In Round 1
IRVING, Texas - The North Texas men’s golf team stumbled out of the gates to open the Spring Break Challenge at the TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas on Monday, but are well within striking distance of a strong finish as the Mean Green finished Day 1 in a tie for second place in the 16-team field.
North Texas, ranked No. 56 in the latest GolfStat.com national poll, finished 6-over par on the day, five shots behind Day 1 leader Rice.
Junior Thomas Rosenmueller led the way for the Mean Green, firing a 2-under par 69 to put him two shots back of the individual leader, Blake Stock of Stephen F. Austin.
Junior Ian Snyman, who earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors after his previous two outings, finished with an even-par 71 and is in eighth place after the opening round.
“I was proud of how the guys hung in there today,” UNT coach Brad Stracke said. “We will make some adjustments and perform up to our standards the next few days.”
Freshman Viktor Forslund, who is coming off a strong finish in a loaded N.I.T. field two weeks ago, struggled at the end of his round with a double- and triple-bogey on two of his final three holes.
